Ink spreading at an edge tells a different story from detail lost in a photocopy, giving Analogue design specific processes to make visible. The distinction matters when apparent wear becomes decoration: the same scratch repeated across unrelated surfaces explains considerably more about the overlay than the process.

A heavy glass panel can appear almost absent; a digital image can look dense enough to touch. Immaterial design concerns how much substance the eye can find. Transparency and light make boundaries uncertain, raising a useful question about where the effect should end and readable information should begin.

A wandering line can suggest immediacy without revealing the considerable planning that preceded it. Loose design lets approximation become visible, leaving some decisions open enough to vary. When every outline has exactly the same wobble, spontaneity starts to look suspiciously good at following instructions.

Unified design allows colours and subjects to change within a recognisable identity, making room for differences through shared relationships. Deciding where consistency should stop is part of the work: an urgent warning probably deserves something other than the treatment given to a friendly invitation.

Everything appears to have found its place, with no particular ambition to accelerate across the page. Static design gives visual weight a settled position, even in a crowded arrangement. That stability still needs differences in emphasis; centring every element cannot decide which one deserves attention.

Plain design leaves an awkward margin with remarkably few places to hide. Removing embellishment exposes proportion and finish, which makes subtraction a less straightforward shortcut than it first appears; what remains needs a reason to look this way, beyond having survived the edit.
